Hello Stranger w/ Dale Jett, Jeff and Tony Brown Band and Uncut Grass to
Perform at 6th Annual
Redbuds and Bluegrass Mountain Music Festival

Area bluegrass fans are in for a real treat at the 6th Annual Redbuds and Bluegrass Mountain Music Festival being held as part of the 30th Annual Honaker Redbud Festival on Friday, April 15, 2011. Hello Stranger w/ Dale Jett, the Jeff and Tony Brown Band and Uncut Grass will be appearing this year. The event will start at 7:00 p.m. at the Honaker High School Auditorium. Southwest Virginia is where America’s music began, and this year’s Redbuds and Bluegrass Mountain Music Festival offers a world-class lineup for your enjoyment.

This year’s Festival is proud to have Hello Stanger with Dale Jett appearing as the feature act. Dale Jett is a third generation member of the legendary Carter Family. The son of Jeanette Carter and the grandson of A.P. and Sara Carter, Dale’s roots are heavily steeped in the rich Carter Family heritage. His group, Hello Stranger, includes his wife, Teresa, on bass and friend Oscar Harris on guitar, mandolin and autoharp. With Dale’s unique guitar style and his powerful vocals, Hello Stranger will provide songs that echo strongly of the hills and valleys of Southwest Virginia.

Also performing will be Russell County’s own Jeff and Tony Brown Band, featuring Jeff on guitar, Tony on banjo and Erby Jewell on mandolin and fiddle. These guys have played with the likes of Blue Highway, Larry Sparks and the Country Gentlemen, and are some of the most talented musicians in the region.

The third group on the playbill for the 2011 Festival is Uncut Grass of the Coeburn, Virginia area. This is a group that originally performed as the Brickey Brothers Band and reformed as Uncut Grass with two of the founding members, Millard Edwards and Darrell Brickey. Of special interest to area folks is the group’s fiddle player, young Jason Blankenship. At 16, Jason is carrying on the tradition of his great grandfather “Fiddling” Ted Powers, one of the best known old time fiddle payers in the region. “Fiddling” Ted and his son Hubert played all around the region as Ted and Hubert Powers, and Ted actually played some with Cowan Powers of the legendary Fiddling Powers Family of Russell County.

Tickets are $10.00 at the door. Come out and support the Honaker Redbud Festival and this music. The show will be held in Honaker High School’s newly renovated auditorium with new comfortable seating and better acoustics. New Peoples Bank is sponsoring this year’s Redbuds and Bluegrass Mountain Music Festival.
